A little bliss…

We started packing and I decided to give that hotel a call asking how to get to them. It was the next in the Travelodge hotel chains. This time, it was the one in Canterbury, and we knew that it is the one “a little bit out of town”. The text from the council confirmed that it’s going to be a Travelodge – Dunkirk.

So I made a call. The reception started to explain to me how to get there, but when I mention my Mobby, they said that there is no way that I am going to be able to get to them on the mobility scooter. The hotel was placed somewhere on the motorway in the middle of the forest. There was no access other from the motorway. No train, bus wouldn’t take my scooter onboard, so… A couldn’t believe what a was hearing. So here we were, about to check out, and without any locum for a night. The life just got shittier.

I got on the phone to the council. It appeared that there was truly no way to find us another place. According to the council’s findings, all the hotels in town were fully booked. At that time, we have already travelled to Canterbury. We discovered that there is another Travelodge in town. A 3 star establishment. We decided that we must find a room for a night, otherwise we will spend a night at the station. And… hey-ho, there were rooms in there (Canterbury Travelodge Chaucer). More than that – they had accessible rooms and huge enough to accommodate my scooter, AND I could charge it!!!! In my room!!!!!

I was truly ecstatic. For the first time since we left our home, I felt a little bit more secure. We slept so well that night…. We stayed there for 3 nights i total, while the council was sorting out some temporary accommodation for the future stay.

It was really a shock that there were vacant rooms in the hotel after all. Why then couldn’t we get them? Not only was it the same hotel chain that council used for TA purposes, it was in town, accessible, close to the station, should we have to move again… The only thing – 3 stars rating (the Ashford hotel had 2 stars). Price wise not much difference, so why not?

We spent 2 nights paying for the room out of our pockets (the council wouldn’t pay). Then we got a call – they found a flat. Still only temporary, but at least we didn’t have to sit in the hotel. We got an address, had a look at Google Maps. It seemed that the property was previously a shop with a one bedroom flat. It now had been rebuilt and transformed into a 2 bedroom flat. So we packed yet again and went got ready to go to Gillingham… But about this – next time.
